Serena Williams defeated first-time Grand Slam finalist Lucie ?afá?ová in the final, 6-3, 6-7(2-7), 6-2 to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 2015 French Open. This win gave Williams her third Career Grand Slam.[1][2] Williams also became the first woman since Jennifer Capriati in 2001 to win the Australian Open and the French Open in the same year, and the first to win the US Open, Australian Open and French Open titles consecutively since Monica Seles (1991–92).[3] This Williams third French Open title and 20th major overall. Maria Sharapova was the defending champion, but was defeated in the fourth round by the eventual finalist, ?afá?ová.

2008 champion Ana Ivanovic reached her first Major semi-final since winning the title seven years previously. It was also her last Major semi-final before retiring at the end of 2016.[4]

?afá?ová became the first Czech woman to reach the French Open final since Hana Mandlíková in 1981.
