Dashawn Jermaine Williams (born April 13, 1983), better known by his stage name Magneto Dayo, is an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He is also part of a ghostwriter team who have written songs for some of today's top artists in rap, hiphop, and R&B. Magneto Dayo is known for his many collaborations with Swedish-Finnish singer Maini Sorri. He also known for his VHS retro and Simpsonwave videos.
Magneto Dayo was born Dashawn Jermaine Williams in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn on April 13, 1983. He grew up in a housing project called Carey Gardens where he experienced the harsh effects of the 1980s Crack epidemic, seeing some family members use drugs and others sell drugs. His father Willie Williams was a DJ (DJ Universal) so Magneto Dayo found a love for music early. His cousin Pop-A-Lot and Torae had a group called Positive N Negative. He would watch them rap in the living room of his grandmothers apartment. He later started freestyle rapping for fun with his cousins. He eventually started writing down his thoughts in rhyme form using music as way to express himself as well as speak on the inner city lifestyle he was living and how others were living around him. He later moved to other areas of Brooklyn such as Bedstuy, Fort Greene and Red Hook where he dealt with pressure of a teen surviving the dangers of inner city of NYC in the 1990s until it became too much for his mother who decided they should move to Newport News, VA for a better life not knowing the streets were just as rough in area they moved to which was known as "Downtown Bad News". Magneto was once again entangled in a world of sex, drugs and violence witnessing the death of close friends and the incarceration of others. But regardless of the adversity he faced he decided to keep doing music.
Second Chance, his second collaboration with the Swedish-Finnish singer Maini Sorri, was released on January 25, 2016, produced by Carsten Lehmann. Second Chance made it to DRT National Airplay Top 80 Independent Chart before it was released and to DRT National Airplay Top 200 Chart for multiple genres in February.
He's also known for his feud with his ex V-Nasty whom he collaborated with in 2012 on their song discussing their break up entitled "The Breakup". Their issues were mainly private until Magneto Dayo leaked the song on the internet and later spoke up about their issues in his interview with LA Weekly. V Nasty later did an interview with LA Weekly threatening Magneto Dayo saying, "I'll kick his ass" and also denying their relationship and Kreayshawn. Dayo later retaliated with a song entitled OJ Simpson in reference to the OJ Simpson murder case. Hiphop sites such as allhiphop said "There's not a lot of new places to go with Hip-Hop and dissing, but this one takes the cake!"
