Emekwanem Ogugua Biosah Jr. (born March 29, 1990), better known by his stage name Maxo Kream, is an American rapper and record producer from Houston, Texas. His debut album Punken was released in January 2018.

Early life

Emekwanem Ogugua Biosah Jr. was born on March 29, 1990 in Houston, Texas and grew up in Alief, Texas, a middle class suburb of Southwest Houston, before moving to Fort Bend while in high school. He attended Kempner High School and Alief Hastings High School. His father is Nigerian and his mother is African American. While growing up, he became affiliated with the 52 Hoover Gangster Crips and was eventually imprisoned .[1]

Career

Maxo Kream began rapping while still in high school, as part of the group Kream Clicc. In 2012, he started to gain popularity after releasing a remix of Kendrick Lamar's "Rigamortus" on YouTube.[2] His early mixtapes Retro Card and Quicc Strikes pushed him into the limelight, hitting over 85,000 hits on LiveMixtapes. In 2014, he supported Chief Keef on the Texas leg of his tour.

His 2015 mixtape #Maxo187 received attention from XXL Magazine and Pitchfork among others,.[3][4] He followed it up in 2016 with The Persona Tape.

In 2018, he released his debut album Punken.

Legal issues

On October 22, 2016, Maxo Kream was arrested for engaging in an "organized crime" act and was held at Fort Bend County Jail in Richmond, TX.[5]
