Rafael Nadal defeated the defending champion Guillermo Coria in the final, 6–3, 6–1, 0–6, 7–5 to win the singles title at the 2005 Monte Carlo Masters. It was his first Masters Series title, and the first of his eleven titles at the Monte Carlo Masters. Nadal became the youngest Masters 1000 champion since Michael Chang at the 1990 Canadian Open.
